The Anointing
--- 8/1/2007
Being raised in the church my whole life, the anointing is a word that I heard very often. So often, that I did not even turn my head to look whenever someone said that a person really had the anointing on their life or something of that sort. It was a normal to hear phrases like that growing up. Now, looking back on my life, I really regret not noticing who the people were talking about. Those were the people I needed to look up to. Those were the people that listened to God and tried to do what was best in every situation.
I’m not saying that I have done terrible things in my life, and not listening when people talked about the anointing was the worst thing I have ever done. I am also not saying that I’m perfect and I do not need it. I am saying that, yes, I have lived a pretty good life. But it is much easier to live a life the way God has planned, if I have the anointing or a call on my life. Having God’s anointing there everyday in every situation can really help out when it is time to make a hard decision. Just knowing that I can call on him and he will answer is comforting enough.
What is the anointing, one may ask? Well, I am in no means the next Mr. Merriam Webster, but I think I do have a good idea on what the word means, or at least what it means to me and how it compares to my life. In simple terms, having the anointing on my life just means that God’s presence is with me on a day to day basis. It means that I have the power to touch God in a way some people cannot figure out. It does not, however mean that I am some super holy person and all I do is pray, read my bible, and fast. I believe I live a normal teen age life. I hang out with friends, have a job, act crazy, and even drive fast on occasion. Through all of this, God still loves me, and he still chose me to carry out a plan that he has hand picked for me life. No one else can truly fulfill the plan God has designed for me to fulfill for him in life. True, if I refuse it, God will find someone to do it, but it will not be exactly as he had planned for me.
I John chapter 2 and verse 27 says, “But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teaches you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.” My understanding of this verse is that if God has placed an anointing on my life, then I need to fulfill it. I do not need to be taught on how to fulfill an anointing, because there is not one person that has the exact same anointing as me. I need to teach myself with God’s help and figure out exactly what my anointing is and use it how he would like it to be used. If I do all of these things, then God will be with me always and I will have my anointing and be greatly used in his kingdom.
Having the anointing is not a complicated thing. Some people have it long before they realize it, others realize it right away. It is not something to be scared of. It is God’s way of choosing one person out of the billions in the world and having a perfect plan for their life. The anointing is something to be thankful for and rejoice about. It is also something that needs to be taken very seriously. Nothing is permanent and everything can be used to better God’s kingdom and to fulfill the anointing he has for a person’s life.
